1. One Metal Teaspoon

We often use teaspoons to cook different recipes. They are among items weighing one ounce. One standard-sized teaspoon made of stainless steel will weigh about an ounce or 28.35 grams. Remember, all teaspoons may not be of the same weight. Teaspoons made of brass or gold may have a different weight.

The weight also depends on the design and decoration of the spoon. I am talking about plain and simple teaspoons that have no intricate designs on them.

2. Thirteen Soda Bottle Caps

Glass bottles of soda usually have metal caps on them. The weight of each soda cap is approximately 2.2 grams or 0.08 ounces. As one ounce equals 28.35 grams, dividing 28.35 with 2.2 gives us 12.88 or approximately 13.

So, if you collect 13 metal caps of soda bottles together, they will weigh one ounce. Remember, the weight may be different for soda bottles of different sizes and manufacturers.

3. One Wooden Pencil (New)

Common wooden pencils weigh about one ounce when they are new. These are the pencils that you use to draw something or do your geometry homework.

Pencils from almost all manufacturers may have the same weight. But if you take special pencils that artists use, they might not be one ounce objects. Mechanical pencils will also weigh more than traditional pencils.

4. One or Two AA Batteries

AA batteries are commonly used to power small household items, such as wall clocks, toys, and many other things. Depending on the battery type, these can weigh close to one ounce or slightly more.

For example, the alkaline AA batteries we commonly use weigh about 23-24 grams, which is close to one ounce. The weight is 0.85 ounces, to be exact. But if you take Lithium AA batteries, they have a weight of 15 grams or 0.5 ounces. So, two of these batteries will weigh one ounce.

Nowadays, we also use rechargeable batteries. These are usually Nickel Metal Hydride or NiMH batteries. Each of these batteries weighs about 31 grams, which is slightly over an ounce.

5. One Slice of Sandwich Bread

If you take the regular sandwich breads, they weigh about an ounce each. Sandwich bread packs are often 150 grams or 250 grams. Depending on the pack size or manufacturer, they have about 5-10 slices of bread.

So, the weight of each bread slice is about 25-30 grams or 0.9-1.07 ounces. It is safe to say that the weight of each sandwich bread slice is among common one ounce items.

6. Nine to Eleven Pennies

US pennies are one of the best ways for one ounce measurement. If you have old pennies that were minted before 1983, those have a higher weight. Each of the old pennies weighs about 3.11 grams or 0.11 ounces. So, 9 of these pennies will weigh about 27.99 or approximately 28 grams.

But if you have newer pennies after 1983, they weigh about 2.5 grams or 0.09 ounces each. So, you need to gather 11 of these pennies to make an ounce.

You may remember that good old time when we used to play CDs or DVDs in dedicated CD or DVD players or computers. If you still have some of those disks at your home, try measuring properly.

Each of these compact discs will weigh exactly 15 grams or 0.53 ounces. So, two compact discs will weigh about 30 grams or slightly over 1 ounce.

If you take regular ballpoint pens that are slim, they should weigh about 10-15 grams each. So, taking two or three such ballpoint pens will give you a weight of 30 grams, which is slightly over one ounce.

Remember, not all ballpoint pens may have the same weight. For example, ballpoint pens with a heavy plastic or metal shell will weigh much higher. So, they won’t be considered as one ounce items. However, these are common in your house.

In the US, butter usually comes in half-pound or one-pound packages. In such packs, there will be two or four butter sticks. So, each of those butter sticks weighs about one-quarter of a pound or four ounces.

But eleven ping pong balls will weigh 29.7 grams or 1.05 ounces, which is slightly higher than what we are looking for. But it’s quite nearby!
